Riverton (originally known is the 1800’s as ‘Gardnerville’) is one of the fastest-growing cities in the state of Utah. Riverton shares city borders with South Jordan to the north, Draper to the east, Bluffdale to the south, and Herriman to the west. The city is located in the Southwestern corner of the Salt Lake Valley about 20 miles from downtown Salt Lake and is now considered a bedroom to the Silicon Slopes.

Riverton has grown rapidly in the last few years, transforming it from a rural farming town into a suburban city, which now is easy access to I-15, Bangerter highway and the Mountain View Corridor. Businesses, housing, and roads have replaced many of the farms and cattle ranges. The town started slowly because agricultural water was hard to access. Canals were dug and huge farms became the norm, and small farmers turned in to larger commercial enterprises concentrating on grains, sugar beets, sheep and dairy cows. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints had a huge farm at 1150 West 12400 South, known as Tithing Yard Hill, which is now a residential development. In 2016 the city approved a huge residential and mixed use development of 543 acres formerly owned by the Church that will be known as Mountain View Village, similar to Daybreak. There could be an estimated 12,000 living there by the time the project is completed.

Local restaurants you might check out in Riverton are J&C House Sushi and Salsa Leedos Mexican Grill. Texas Roadhouse chain is decent for steaks and BBQ. This is an area more for farms and homes than local places to eat!
